Community Foundation Announces 2019 Play-Along with the SBSO
Community Musicians Can Join Symphony on August 24
As part of the 2019 Community Foundation Performing Arts Series, the Community Foundation of St. Joseph County will host a Play-Along with the South Bend Symphony Orchestra during its August 24 concert at the Chris Wilson Pavilion at South Bend’s Potawatomi Park. This free opportunity is open to all community musicians who would like the chance to perform with a professional symphony orchestra.
This year, the Play-Along will include two pieces, provided through agreement with the Richmond, VA, Symphony: Edvard Grieg’s “In the Hall of the Mountain King” and Leonard Bernstein’s “Mambo” from West Side Story. Alastair Willis, music director of the South Bend Symphony Orchestra, will conduct.
For 2019, the Play-Along has a new enhancement: Each orchestral part for the Play-Along pieces will be available in Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced formats. This will help to ensure that community musicians of all skill levels are able to enjoy their experience. (The Advanced format will be most similar to the music that has been provided in the past.)
In order to participate in this free event, community musicians must commit to two mandatory rehearsals and complete an online registration form. More details, the registration form, and downloadable sheet music for all orchestral instruments can be found online at www.cfsjc.org/2019playalong. Space is limited, so musicians are encouraged to register early.
The Community Foundation Performing Arts Series is sponsored by the Community Foundation of St. Joseph County’s ArtsEverywhere Fund, the Marjorie H. Wilson Charitable Trust Fund, the Indiana Arts Commission, and South Bend Venues, Parks & Arts. The South Bend Youth Symphony Orchestras is supporting the 2019 Play-Along as a performance partner.
