Community Foundation Offers Continuing Education Event for Advisors

Estate Planning Attorney Sally Mulhern Scheduled for Nov. 15

On Thursday, November 15, the Community Foundation of St. Joseph County will welcome nationally recognized estate planning attorney Sally Mulhern for a three-hour seminar for professional advisors entitled “Estate Planning to Die For®: Charitable Giving Under the New Tax Law.

The seminar will be held at South Bend's Century Center, 120 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Drive, and will take place from 8:30 until 11:30 a.m. Continental breakfast will be served beginning at 8 a.m.

The seminar will include:
  • Identifying your clients’ estate planning goals and assembling the estate planning team
  • Which features of the new tax law will impact your clients’ charitable goals?
  • Opportunity Knocks: A case study approach to making the new tax law work for your clients, incorporating ideas for retirement accounts, outright gifts or bequest, charitable remainder or lead trusts, irrevocable trusts “on steroids,” generation-skipping transfer taxes, “upstream” estate planning, changing a testamentary bequest into a current planned gift, sale to an Intentionally Defective Irrevocable Trust, and solving the “empty next” syndrome
Parking is available in Century Center's main lot at no cost to attendees.

Continuing Education Credits are available from the Indiana Commission on Continuing Legal Education, the Indiana Department of Insurance, the Institute of Certified Banks, and the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards.

Sally Mulhern, J.D., received her law degree in 1982 from Cornell Law School, and her undergraduate degree, summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, from Boston College in 1979. She is a founding partner in the law firm of Mulhern & Scott PLLC, with an office in Portsmouth New Hampshire. Sally concentrates in sophisticated estate planning techniques, and represents some of the nation’s most prominent families. She is a fellow of the prestigious American College of Trust and Estate Counsel, and has been selected by her peers as one of US News & World Report’s Best Lawyers in America. She is also a member of Outstanding Lawyers of America and the Bar Register of Preeminent Women Lawyers.
