2021 Community Foundation Performing Arts Series
Line-Up Announced for Free Summer Concerts at the Chris Wilson Pavilion in Potawatomi Park
We’re back! After a year’s hiatus, the Community Foundation of St. Joseph County will once again present the award-winning Community Foundation Performing Arts Series in the Chris Wilson Pavilion at South Bend’s Potawatomi Park. This three-event free series begins on August 14 and runs on consecutive Saturdays through August 28, featuring some of our community’s best arts talent.
Events include:
- Aug. 14: With special guests from South Bend Lyric Opera, Vesper Chorale presents “Do You Hear the People Sing? Songs of Stage & Screen,” featuring music from Les Miserables, Matilda, Godspell, and Lord of the Rings, as well as some of opera’s most beloved choruses by Puccini, Bizet, Mascagni, and Verdi
- Aug. 21: South Bend Civic Theatre presents highlights from three of its recent and upcoming musicals, including Xanadu, The Spongebob Musical, and Matilda
- Aug. 28: The South Bend Symphony Orchestra performs a full concert featuring dance-themed music of Dvorak, Strauss, Sibelius, and others. Although there will not be a community “play-along” this year, musicians from the South Bend Youth Symphony Orchestras will join the SBSO for works by Bizet and Tchaikovsky, representing the larger group we would normally have. Also, our broadcast partner WVPE-88.1 FM will air a special, one-time-only simulcast of this concert—so if you’re not able to attend, tune in and join us on the radio!
All events are free to attend and begin at 7 p.m. Bring a lawn chair or blanket for seating. In case of rain, updates will be posted on the Community Foundation’s Facebook page and at www.cfsjc.org. (Only the South Bend Symphony performance on Aug. 28 has a scheduled rain location: Adams High School Auditorium.) All events will be professionally amplified and lit by EventSys.
The Community Foundation Performing Arts Series is sponsored by the Community Foundation of St. Joseph County’s ArtsEverywhere Fund, the Marjorie H. Wilson Charitable Trust Fund, and the Indiana Arts Commission. WVPE-88.1 FM is our broadcast partner. South Bend Venues, Parks and Arts is a key partner. The South Bend Youth Symphony Orchestras is a performance partner for the Aug. 28 event.
