We Took a Sneak Peek at the Dream Center
"The AACF is honored to provide space for programs that will help develop and grow current and future generations."
On the anniversary of the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., hundreds of people gathered on the westside for celebration, remembrance, and most of all, a sneak peek of the brand new Martin Luther King, Jr. Dream Center.
The shining new community center is a victory for the westside of South Bend, one proudly supported by $150,000 from the Foundation’s African American Community Fund (AACF).
“The AACF is honored to provide space for programs that will help develop and grow current and future generations.” said Marion Fulce, Chair of the AACF.
The celebration included a tour of the new building: two gymnasiums, indoor walking track, audio studio, commercial kitchen, and computer lab. Outside of the facility: a splashpad, playground, picnic pavilion, an event venue, open green space, and outdoor basketball courts.
The new $27 million Dream Center will replace the original 1973 building, and every part of the new facility is a boon to the people of South Bend, and especially to those on the westside.
“The building is beautiful,” said Fulce. “But more important is the life-changing difference the Center will make for those who visit and participate in programs.”
