Senior Living Initiative
One of our key focuses is improving quality of life for our community’s senior citizens. Primary emphasis is given to efforts serving the poorest and most vulnerable seniors.
We’ve made multiple proactive investments focused on improving the quality of nursing home care in St. Joseph County. Since 2011, the Foundation funded a year-long training and learning collaborative for nursing home staff and has continued supporting professional development by subsidizing Peer Learning Roundtables for nursing home administrators since 2013. Other investments include funding the development of a Nurses as Leaders course curriculum taught at Ivy Tech, training nursing home staff in implementation of the Music & Memory program, and subsidizing nursing home participation in an Employer Resource Network designed to support lower-wage earners with rapid problem resolution and decrease employee turnover.
Our initiative work includes more than $1.5 million in funding to REAL Services, St. Joseph Health System, and Habitat for Humanity of St. Joseph County in their efforts to serve seniors.
