UZIMA! Mourns the Loss of Kelly Burgét
Endowed fund at the Community Foundation honors her memory and legacy

The local arts community is mourning the loss of Kelly Burgét, a dynamic community voice and founder of UZIMA! African Drum and Dance.
Burgét passed away on February 6, but her legacy with UZIMA! will continue with the creation of a new endowed fund, opened in her memory at the Community Foundation.
“We are committed to preserving Kelly’s legacy and building upon her foundation,” said Michelle Jewell, Executive Director at UZIMA!
Gifts to the organization’s endowed fund will help provide a stable and predictable income stream for UZIMA! in the years to come as it seeks to expand with community workshops and dance classes.
“Kelly brought to the table a banquet of wonderful ideas,” said Dr. Marvin Curtis, board chair. “And her ideas will continue to bring the community together still.”
